Ioannina is the capital and largest city of Epirus, an administrative region in north-western Greece. It lies at an elevation of approximately 500 meters above sea level, on the western shore of lake Pamvotis. It can be reached from Thessaloniki via the Egnatia Highway and from Athens via Patras, on the wonderful route over the Rio Antirrio Bridge (approximately 5 hours).

Kindly note that Ioannina city is approximately 2hours 30’ (250 km) distance drive from Thessaloniki airport via the new Egnatia High way (the biggest motorway in Greece completed in 2009). The trip is very convenient thanks to this high way and in the same time very interesting as it traverses the mountainous Greek regions of Epirus and Macedonia, crossing the Pindos and Vermio mountain ranges surrounded by abundant natural beauty.
*In case you choose to reach Ioannina by the Thessaloniki airport, you may also choose between the Shuttle Bus Transfer organized by the Congress, the City Bus or a private taxi (please advise the corresponding sections below).
Athens
Ioannina city is approximately 6hours (420 km) distance drive from Athens airport via Corinth, the wonderful route over the Rio Antirrio Bridge and the National Road. The access is easy and the beautiful Greek countryside along with the picturesque valleys will offer you an enjoyable trip.
For those participants who will decide to travel to Ioannina by taxi form Thessaloniki or Athens, the Organizing-Administrative Bureau can arrange a transfer from the airport at the time of their flight’s arrival.
Thessaloniki – Ioannina: COST 300,00€/TAXI (approximately)
Athens – Ioannina: COST 500,00€/TAXI (approximately)
For those participants who will decide to travel to Ioannina by bus, there are frequent itineraries from many departure points.
- There are about 7-8 itineraries every day from Athens to Ioannina and vice versa.
- There are also about 6 daily itineraries from Thessaloniki to Ioannina and vice versa.
- Finally, daily itineraries are also carried out to and from Patras, Igoumenitsa, Volos, Agrinio, Arta, Preveza, and other big cities.

Ioannina is connected by air only with the Athens International Airport (Athens city). There are two flights every day from Athens International Airport to Ioannina with Aegean Airlines. The duration of the flight is 45 minutes. The city is served by the airport of Ioannina King Pyrros Airport, 4 km away from the city centre and 10 km from the congress venue.
*In case you choose to reach Ioannina through Athens you will be able to choose from the timetables of the available flights provided here as soon as they are officially announced by the corresponding airlines.
**Transfer by bus to and from the suggested hotels will be offered by the congress to all the participants. It is also possible to organize a private transfer via taxi for up to 3 people/per taxi from Ioannina airport to one of the suggested hotels and vice versa: 6 km distance approximately (16 minutes driving time). There is always a taxi rank operating at the airport.
